[UUG/MLUG] jdk problems

I seem to have solved my problems regarding java development.  I installed
a new jdk from a CD and then played with PATH and CLASSPATH until it
finally worked.  It didn't seem to until I set the variables in bash,
which is what the javac script runs in.  Does that sound right?
